Object  NGC 4755- The Jewel Box Cluster
Info

NGC 4755- is located in the southern constellation of Crux. Known as the Jewel Box or Crucius cluster, it is one of the finest clusters in the night sky. Visible to the naked eye, it appears as a hazy 4th magnitude star. Resolving with a telescope shows the main bright stars to be blue super giants of 6 & 7th magnitude. The bright red star to the centre is an 8th magnitude red super giant. It lies approximately 7600 light years away.

Notes/ Conditions

- This is a combination of chrominance data taken from an image I did on April 07 combined with new luminance taken on January  the 29th 08. The conditions when taking the RGB channels was very poor and also I had a slight collimation issue. There is a noticeable red bloat to the registration with the luminance, this being the result of poor collimation and focusing on the previous RGB channels.   The following year when taking the Luminance data, as typical with this time of year being very dry and dusty  the conditions were quite poor. However as this cluster is very bright, my focus was quite good this time around and was able to sharpen the details reasonably to give good representation of this lovely object. There is a slight gradient issue due to the proximity of the Milky Way star field even in these short sub exposures.
